A Year In Gaming

A Year In Gaming

I thought I would write a quick blog post about last year and my table-top warfare gaming experiences, and what I thought of them... Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures Game This game has easily been one of the most popular games of late. At local gaming clubs there seems to be always at least one table devoted to it, and sometimes many if a league or tournament is being played. For those who know nothing of the game, firstly, where have you been? Secondly, here is a brief explanation. It's basically a game of aerial dogfighting in the Star Wars universe. There...

Review of Sails of Glory Game 1/1/16 (starter set)

Happy New Year everybody! To kick off 2016, I thought we would start with a review of the new Sails of Glory starter set game by Ares Games (which won Game of the Year in 2015). This was following a recent trip to the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and seeing the amazing HMS Victory. It was an awesome experience and we wanted to try and recreate an epic Napoleonic battle. Creation Nation First Order TIE Fighter gifts Product Review Resistance X-Wing Star Wars The Force Awakens Core Set

See pictures (I have zoomed these in as much as possible): First thing I noticed on opening the box proper was the inclusion of an initiative template. I am not sure how much it will be used (maybe for tournament play), but most people can keep track of who has the initiative. Still it's a nice inclusion. Second thing I noticed was that the Asteroids appear different; a couple...

Local League Game by Nicky Gardiner So, this weeks gaming could have gone better. Due to a running repair on one of my Y-Wings (I snapped the peg off in the bottom of it), I was forced to change my list and was not able to take 3x Y-Wings. In a way, I wish I had not as I tried a different ship I had only flown once before... FIRST GAME: I took my P9-equipped Y-Wing (old faithful) having now despatched a fair few TIE Fighters, a Decimator and, last week, a Firespray. I also took Chewie in the Falcon. With 'calculation', 'recon...
